Data about tourist industry in Crimea

The Crimea is peninsular and justly called a natural pearl of Europe. The peninsular is occupies an area of 27 thousand sq. km and stretches for 200 km from the north to the south and for 325 km from the west to the east.

The peninsular has more than ten thousand historic monuments preserving the remain of the long-gone civilization: antiquity Greece and Rome, Ancient Rus and Byzantine, Khazaria and Balkans countries.

Population of Crimea at present time consist the next data: all Crimea - 2,033,000 people.

The capital of Crimea: Simferopol - 344,000. The main towns are: Kerch - 157,000. Yevpatoria - 106,000. Feodosia - 75,000. Yalta - 82,000. Crimea is one of multinaional regions as more than 100 nations and nationalities live here.

At the present time the Crimean recreation tourism complex includes 632 holidaymaking and health-treatment establishments.

Statistics proves the next data: Crimea is the leader in Ukraine in provision of:

  • Excursion services to tourists: 45,3% - 1998. 42,0% - 1999. 41,8% - 2000.
  • Services to incoming foreign tourists: 33,9% - 1998. 19,6% - 1999. 34,0% - 2000.
  • Services to domestic tourists: 14,6% - 1998. 16,0% - 1999. 18,0% - 2000.
